Tuesday night saw Grime artist Stormzy bring #Merky Festival to Ibiza Rocks Hotel. With much speculation, around #MERKY, rumours were circulating about a new album after much of Stormy’s Instagram posts included #Merky in the caption. However, it was announced by Ibiza Rocks Hotel that they ‘teamed up with Grime kingpin & one of the hottest live acts on the planet Stormzy to launch the first ever #MERKY Festival. Shortly after the announcement, the lineup for the festival which was hosted by Beats 1 presenter Julie Adenuga was released. The line up had a mix of daytime poolside sets and main stage performances. Artists initially announced included J Hus, Dave, Ray BLK and Kenny Allstar, along with a headline set from Stormzy. Other artists at the festival included Mist, Mostak, Jayke, Kenny Allstar, Patrick Nazemi and many others. The festival was split between various stages including the main stage, the poolside stage, Merky Lounge, Urban Karaoke, Dengdeli, GRM Daily Hidden Room plus many more. Meaning festival goers were able to enjoy the different acts at the poolside and utilise much of the Ibiza Rocks Hotel space. For the UK Urban music scene, this festival is definitely a positive movement in terms of showcasing and exposing artists to international audiences. Having previously performed at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel Stormzy was no stranger to the venue. Hosting the first #Merky Festival at this iconic venue is another major move on  his journey to stardom. As the curator of the festival, we can imagine that Stormzy will be able to recruit and call up much of his friends to support and show love to the people of Ibiza going forward. Following the success of the inaugural festival, Stormzy tweeted “Do not miss merky festival next year yesterday was toooooooo live fucking hell” Giving us all the hope that there will be more festivals to come. With Grime music on the rise this year, it has been good to see Stormzy giving the genre an international platform and help take it to new levels. We can definitely see this festival developing as more artists emerge from the scene. #MERKYFEST2018
