CAROLINE TALKS TO MUSIC WEEK
Caroline Simionescu-Marin A&R manager at XL Recordings spoke to music publication Music Week about UK rappers breaking through in 2017. What was interesting to know was the top 200 albums of the year included artist such as J Hus, Loyle Carner, Nines, Rag N Bone Man, Sampha and Stormzy.
Caroline is responsible for the New Gen compilation which featured some other break through artist of this year such as Stefflon Don, Avelino and 67. She also is the A&R responsible for Nines’ project ‘One Foot Out‘ which reached number 4 in the official album charts on its release. So far One Foot Out has sold just over 30k copies, Caroline also discusses how the campaign went.
The XL A&R manager then goes on to talk about how the Grime and Rap scene have benefited from streaming. She talks about how the likes of Stormzy have open the doors by making it easier to release music independently for artist such as Dave and AJ Tracey.
