51st State Festival are back celebrating their third year in the game and considering how fresh faced they are, we’re absolutely loving their mix of old school acts and the amount of musical genres being hosted in one London field. This is a festival to make you reminisce with stage hosts We Love Soul, Backto95, FOUND, Channel One Sound System and Groove Odyssey.

alt="51st state festival crowd"

Taking to Trent Park on Saturday 5th August, 51st State Festival welcomes festival goers and legendary acts alike, we’re excited for a blast from the past, featuring  Masters At Work ‘to be in love,’ Wookie ‘scrappy,’ funk and disco magic from Dimitri from Paris,  disco diva’ness from Evelyn “Champagne” King and Norman Jay MBE who’ll be spinning his coined genre of music known as rare groove. Is there anything better thn getting nostalgic with friends in the peak of summer? 51st State have not only been hard at work securing visionary sounds and high status acts but the team have been focused on upping the anti when it comes to production, which means crisper sound systems, even more bars and more convenient ways to pay for them. Not only will that be bigger and better but if you’re looking for a VIP experience, you’ll be treated to your very own dedicated line up, table service, shimmering toilets and premium food offerings.

We can’t deny that we have a favourite stage, we’re not biased but Backto95 is taking it back with the likes of DJ Luck & MC Neat, Artful Dodger, Creed, Shola Ama, Norris Da Boss Windross,Masterstepz and Matt Ja Lamont. UKG has always been much hyped but with recent revivals from the likes of Craig David, it’s brought a younger crowd along and with DJ’s sampling soul and disco, you can expect to see faces old and new, raving from 11am to 10pm, there’s bound to be good vibes all day long.

Highlights will include Ultra Nate ‘free’,  Stylo G ‘badd’, Todd Terry, Mad Professor and Artful Dodger ‘movin too fast,’ but don’t take our word for it. Since its beginning in 2015, 51st state has sold out consecutively, celebrating house, garage, soul, caribbean and disco, there’s something for everyone. If you’re feeling for carnival vibes then we’ll see you under the Channel One Sound System & Friends tent… With the main men Channel One Sound System (absolute legends in my eyes and a firm carnival favourites,) Hatcha, Reggae Roast, Benny Page with $pyda, Macka B & The Roots Ragga Band, we only hope there’s a quality jerk chicken food stall in close proximity.

As an 80’s baby and 90’s child I can look back and remember some of the most memorable names and songs in soul, funk and disco, if you’re all about that glitter and platform life then we’ll check you at We Love Soul’s stage featuring Omar ‘there’s nothing like this,’ Beggar & Co ‘time,’ Freaky Reidy, Ruddy Ranx, DJ Bigger and Micro & Champain, amongst many more.

Found hosts are probably the babies of the festival stages but by no means small, they’re behind the much loved Found festival which will take place this summer in Brockwell Park, Brixton. You can find your dose of electronic, house and dance here, with their special guest headliner still to be revealed, we can tell you that Derrick Carter, Todd Terry, 2 Four 7, DJ Sneak and Matthias Tanzmann will be there for certain. Having been to Found Festival a few times, it’s fair to say fans of the brand are full of hype.

The main stage Groove Odyssey will bring lots of live vocals and live bands, you’ll have the honour of BeBe Winans, Defected in The House fave Louie Vega, American house production team The Basement Boys, ‘whatcha gonna do’ Teddy Douglas and with hosting from soul and house singer Barbara Tucker, she’ll be getting everyone involved in that loving feeling that festivals seem to bring out of us.
