If you’re quite happy to read on then we’ve got all the reasons why you should be at We Are Fstvl between 26th- 28th May.
2. A slice of Paradise
Not only one of the stages in Upminster, Essex, but you can expect the same party vibes of Ibiza and Marbella. The Paradise stage will welcome Jamie Jones, Eats Everything, Hot Since 82, Maya Jane Cole and Skream… who take us back to a few mental boat parties abroad. Talking of Ibia, you can expect other much loved white isle favourites including Space, Solid Grooves and CircoLoco, who will bring their familia- Seth Troxler, Jackmaster, Michael Bibi and Tough Love.
3. It’s getting hot in hurr
Now I’m no way a perv but I can appreciate that We Are Fstvl attract some seriously gorgeous looking people, so much so that they had model scouts on the lookout in 2016. But don’t be alarmed, the crowd at We Are Fstvl are a welcoming bunch, so they’ll be no pretentious clipboards here. Instead you can expect to have made friends with the glitter chick who is now carefully applying glitter and bindis to your face.. Being the first festival of summer it really shows and some people go to town on their outfits and overall presentation. Fleeky points all round!
4. Kick off time
They’ve got to be pretty hyped at being the first major festival of 2017 and all the years before that, and why shouldn’t they be? Afterall they’re consistently voted the no.1 most popular festival on festival sites, as well as winning awards that include Winner of Best New Festival, Best Medium Sized Festival and Best International Festival… in the words of Ron Burgandy, they’re kind of a big deal.
5. “Let me upgrade you.”
They’re doing it, doing it again! Showing that they’re all about longevity, We Are Fstvl have brought in something new for 2017, they’ve only agreed to let you lot stay within the grounds and camp, for 3 days and nights of solid raving. Not only have you got the perks of not having to catch last trains here, ubers there or hotels wherever but you can stay in the realms of festival forever or at least until they’ve called it a day on Monday. Perks include your very own stage hosts like Egg LDN, S.I.C (Tom Zanetti, Shift K3y, DJ Target), Regression Sessions (Jack Swift and many more) and Morning Gloryville who will start the day off the way you intend it to stay, with morning raving. Expect free massages, yoga, glitter painting and superfood smoothies when you’re done with your morning rave.
6. It’s musically educational
You’ll be partying with the masses but education comes first surely? That’s why We Are Fstvl would like to take you through their A-Z of House, Grime, Dance and Electro artists.
Armand Van Helden/ Dixon/ Duke Dumont/ Giggs/ Hannah Wants/ Jamie Jones/ Katy B/ Kurupt FM/ Loco Dice/ Mistajam/ MK/ Sigma/ Tchami/ Wilkinson/ Wiley. Stay in school kids!
Proving that I was always a C grade student, I’m looking forward to catching UKG sensation Craig David presents TS5 and the legendary Carl Cox.
7. Gimme more
The festival that just keeps giving, We Are Fstvl have added even more stages this year, thus making it that little bit more difficult to decide who to see, but on a plus, getting punters to move about a bit more instead of sticking to one tent for 3 hours (which you could quite easily do!) Marco Carola, Kaluki, D-Vine Sounds and Diynamic are just a few of the new stage hosts, bringing a selection of friends. On the list will be Steve Lawler, Miguel Campbell, Danny Howard and h.o.s.h.
8. Location, location, location
So bang in the middle it’s a little bit London and a little bit Essex, this is one of the easiest festivals to get to. This cheeky lot are so good to you that they’ll even add in free shuttle service so you don’t look like a lemon walking down cow riddled fields and quiet cul-de-sacs. As soon as you reach Upminster’s quaint looking high street, you’ll feel that festival thrill.
Go for a few before making your way to the festival or meet up with the rest of your squad before grabbing a taxi or taking advantage of the free shuttle bus aka party bus.
9. Glitter Fairies
It wouldn’t be a festival without copious amounts of glitter but we’re also quite excited about the rather throwback stage that is Glitterbox. Who could forget Shapeshifters ‘Lola’s theme’ and Roger Sanchez ‘another chance?! Expect to be covered in glitter and goodness by the time you leave!
10. Pick of the mix
You’ve got to love a main stage when you go to a festival because the whole point is that, if you really can’t be bothered or you’re getting on a bit, you can just stay there and have all amenities in close proximity, as well as not being offended by the music. The problem with some main stages is that they’re a bit vanilla but We Are Fstvl draws a line at this. Nah they’ve got Gorgon City, Armand Van Helden, Katy B, Hannah Wants and Kurupt FM (who were a highlight of mine in 2016 because they caused utter carnage and bare jokes!) Just a few of the main stage names but it’s not too shabby is it?! If you’re looking to work for it a little bit more you should definitely make your way to the UKF tent. We’re glad to see favourites My Nu Leng are back, plus Redlight, Section Boyz, Low steppa and DJ Zinc to get crowds gassed. Hospitality always goes hard and they’re backed by David Rodigan, Nu:Logic, Wiley and Camo & Crooked.
