The North West London rapper Nines debut album ‘One Foot Out’ enters the UK album chart at No 4. Although ‘One Foot Out’ has been released by XL Recordings; probably one of the biggest independent labels in the UK which is home to the likes of Adele, Jack White, and Nines and has been home to some of the most talented and established artist such as Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, MIA, Basement Jaxx, Giggs and many more. Nine’s album entered the top 5 without the traditional support from the mainstream media outlets.  This is testimony to the hard work, organic buzz and following that Nines has acquired over the past few years.

It’s nice to see we are at the stage in the UK whereby a rapper can express themselves as they wish without worrying if radio are going to support them and without having to compromise their style, sound and content which got them to where they are just to fit in and be accepted by the mainstream.

Acts like Skepta, Giggs, JME, Stormzy and now Nines are showing us you can do this thing we all love called music on your own terms.

The album has some good features such as J Hus on ‘High Roller, Tiggs Da Author on ‘Hoes’ and Akala on ‘I Wonder’ which really stood out to me. Akala provides wisdom and some thought provoking commentary over this well produced track. Upon listening to this track, it really does make you wonder.

‘One Foot Out’ is a good body of work, listen for yourself and tell us what you think.
