Stormzy has done it again. As we come towards the end of 2017 I feel like l can honestly say that one artist that has seriously blown me away has been Stormzy.

Continuing his year Stromzy released his Gang Signs and Prayer Film exclusively on YouTube yesterday. Ahead of the release, Stormzy teased fans with the announcement last week.

The film which is somewhat of a visual experience of his debut album Gang, Signs and Prayer and follows a young boy in South London and the evolution of his life as a young boy to an adult and the challenges of his life growing up. It Includes performances of various tracks from Stormzy’s Gang Signs and Prayer album including Return of The Rucksack, Bad Boys, Mr Skeng and 100 Bags.

The evolution of the album has transpired over the last couple of years and has become  more about the overall ideas of storytelling and the visual experience that comes along with than just the album itself. We have seen it among artists such as Beyonce with her last two albums and now one of our vey own Stormzy has used this similar approach.  Stormzy has used this in a different more tactical way in terms of extending the life of his album and keeping the listeners connected.

The movie ends on a high with a powerful message “Young youths like myself who grow up in the hood we often don’t know that we are the masters of our own destiny. There is so many things that steer us in the wrong direction. However, we decide what happens in our own lives.”

If you haven’t done so check out the film and let us know what you think. Also check out his latest video Cigarettes and Cush here at BackstAAAge.
