Ja Rule’s ‘Always On Time’ was a classic of the early noughties, an R’n’B anthem that will forever get a reload at that old skool rave… so never in my life would I believe I’d stand behind someone sampling it. Ok Raye might only have taken inspiration from the 2001 smash but daamn diddy she done it well!

Taking the tempo from smooth grooves to a more Pop meets R’n’B direction, Raye has managed to re-invent the song completely as she sings about giving all her time to a bugaboo (rah at the Destiny’s Child reference) but that sh*t aint going down anymore as she is all set to ‘Decline’ that famalam’s future calls.

With tonnes of UK slang, enough to excite Drake, Raye has penned what could be the newest female empowered song, cussing the life out of those nasty scrubs and those “it’s not right but it’s ok” cheats. Teaming up with Mr Eazi who plays the part of a begging waste man spitting “but if i do it again, you can leave me hanging… give me one try.” It’s almost a parallel to Ja’s partnership with Ashanti where he’s questioning does she really want to lose his good loving, and almost a come back, circa Eamon and Frankee ‘F*ck You Right Now..’ but unlike them so cleverly orchestrated. The video has a Cuban feel similar to DJ Khaled and Rihanna ‘Wild Thoughts as Raye dances around sultry in crop tops, joggers and platforms with a dewy complexion and sass fuelled animation.

Babes it is time to block those f*ck boys… it’s 2018!
